Important points about Inline functions
Only small functions should me made Inline which increases efficiency. For these functions, calling overheads are much higher as compared to expansion.
Inline functions are generally used for increasing efficiency but if you make larger functions as inline it will decrease the efficiency by making it slow.
These functions are put in the Symbol Table and compiler takes care for all function calls to these functions.
Limitations
It is not mandatory for the compiler to expand these functions always. If a function is much larger and complex then compiler does not perform inline. A larger and complicated function if expanded always will affect the memory and speed badly.
In the case, address of function is required in program; compiler does not treat that function as inline. Because for addressing purposes, compiler has to provide storage to the inline functions but inline functions never get storage. They are just put in symbol tables and used.
